It is very quit and I am very pleased and leave it running for hours. It is a tight place. This is not cheap stuff. These people know what they are doing. The 7" X 7" cutout I sealed with a sheet metal I bent to look like a pan which I carved circle in it with steel disk and funneled the 6" steel duct through it, screwed the pan to the joists and sealed every seem with Aluminum tape. Also one screw fell of my hand in the attic while doing the work, the damper blocked it preventing it from dropping inside the motor.

When the heater or AC works it sucks the fiberglass into the house from the unsealed ceiling cutout then through the cutouts of the chimney. I installed it myslef with framing in the attic and used only galvanized rigid steel duct all the way from the motor flange to the flashing on the roof. I didn't find those to be higher quality at all. I had a contractor remove all the insulation in the attic of my house and vacuum it completely. These people know what they are doing. This was my fourth hood and before I bought it I got a picture of the frame from the company that makes it and I new this should be it. Damper is important to prevent loss of heat in winter. Mounted the frame with a level. Would not trust anyone to do the work after what I saw of the old hood. Was tough work that took me 16 hours in the attic over 10 days in the morning until I got it done. The blown in fiberglass insulation in the attic was put at 16" high after I installed the hood. Guess how much they are, - dollars for island. I reached and picked it up easily. Decided not to waste my money and this purchase was a kill for me. Keep in mind installing a dishwasher can be done in 30 minutes on the ground but not a hood. Also one screw fell of my hand in the attic while doing the work, the damper blocked it preventing it from dropping inside the motor. We are keeping it on 2nd or 3rd speed all the time. I took this opprtunity to inspect the attic and I came across the old hood and my jaw dropped when I saw the work of contractor who installed it before I bought the house 3 years ago. Shopping for the right hood turned to be a nightmare because I have high standard for how such a product should be engineered. I had been to few dealers that carry brand name hoods. It mounts firmly to the ceiling at 4 corners and also mounts by the motor on 4 sides making the hood hold very well. He didn't install any type of duct inside the chimney and used flex aluminum duct which he taped to the flashing on the roof and just pointed it to the 7" X 7" cutout in the sheet rock and left it as such. Much of the cooking vapor came back inside the the house and the rest went into the attic. It is very quit and I am very pleased and leave it running for hours. I am very handy and don't accept jobs that are not close to perfect. I decided to do it myself and dismantled the old hood first. No more fiberglass into the house.
